Swallowing the bitter pill

Why is it so much more difficult for the State to accept that it lost?

Not my thing

Last week, I tagged along to some local lawyers’ gathering. From the fancy locale, to the expensive suits, to the talk of depositions and summary judgment, I felt like a fish out of water. I didn’t recognize anyone and I didn’t see any criminal law types. There was a smattering of civil judges, corporate lawyers, solos and first or second year associates.

When informing someone that I was a public defender, I even got an “Oh that’s great!”.

I should stop going to these things and start going to some CCDLA events, so I can mingle with brethren.  Or perhaps that NY Blawgers get-together.

Busy week

Posting may be light this week. I have a few trials scheduled.

Crazy Matilda

Just for the heck of it. One of the very few songs of the last 5 years that I can listen to.

And one classic – rejuvenated.

Just so we’re clear

This is my blog. It is a personal blog. I write mainly about criminal law, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is a personal blog. I own the blog, I pay for it. I will rant; I will scream and yell if I feel like it. I do not have to be rational or logical or correct. Please read the legal disclaimer/privacy policy if you’re unsure of anything.

I also recognize that I can be wrong. Very often. Which is why, unlike some other blogs, comments are always open and I rarely, if ever, delete comments.  You’re free to disagree with me and more often than not I will respond in the comments.

This is not directed at any one individual in particular, I just thought it prudent to remind my readers in light of the sensitive and controversial topics that have been covered here over the past few months.

If you’d like a fair and balanced news report, try these sites.

Thank you for reading and I hope you continue to do so.

Yes, this was a rant.

I have survived

Hello blogosphere (and readers)! After a whirlwind tour of the southern states, I have returned home. Thanks to everyone who read and commented in my absence (including “Jan” who – intentionally or otherwise – almost outed me ;) )

Posts to follow shortly!

It’s alway sunny in…..

This blog is going on vacation! (well, not the blog itself, but I am.) Fear not, however. I have entrusted the job of sporadically updating the blog to Miranda and taking a cue from Anne, I have some old posts lined up for republication. Hopefully, everything goes well and there will be plenty for you to read.

Also, you can always find something interesting by clicking on one of the links in the sidebar.

See you in September!

I bit the bullet

 Off-topic post.

After years of being inundated with commercials and friends promising me the golden civilization, I bit the bullet and bought an iPod.

It’s okay. Someone want to tell me what makes it so great?

I hate Apple, btw. Their stupid gimmicks and tactics ended up costing me $60 more than I wanted to (or should have to) pay. Which lead me to buy the 30GB version instead of the 80GB version (which I totally was going to).

I shouldn’t have to pay extra for a scratch-resistant case or a freakin wall-outlet charger!

And as much as I love U2, I’m not paying an extra $30 for a U2 version. C’mon.

Anyway. At least I’m listening to music again in forever.

My identity has been revealed

Update: Now that the calendar reads April 2nd, it is safe to say that the preceding was an April Fool’s Day joke. My name is not really David L. Washington and I do not attend the Lockhart school of law.

For the past few years, I have blogged anonymously and for good reason. Who I am, what I do is purely my own business. However, the super-sleuths at pd stuff and pd investigator have somehow discovered my identity. In classic celebrity style, I am going to pre-empt any publicity this might cause by stating who I really am here on my blog. I have not decided whether to continue to blog since I feel particularly violated. I may just shut down the blog.

My name is David L. Washington and I am currently a 2L at Lockhart School of Law. I am 23 years old and I am married with no kids. When I graduate, I want to become a District Attorney who prosecutes the offenders. This blog is merely to give me training in writing and how to think like a defense attorney; valuable skills when I become a prosecutor.

There. Are you happy now?

I muse myself

Here’s a sneak peek of tomorrow’s Monday Musings, featuring yours truly. Thanks to pdstuff blogger for the opportunity!

Posting schedule

Posting has been – and will continue to be – light. I am on trial this week and what with the holiday and the boring State of CT, there really isn’t much (time) to blog about anything. I will return with a lengthy post over the weekend, though. Thanks for humoring me!

10,000 hits

The little stat counter tells me (actually as of yesterday) that this blawg has had 10,000 visitors/page hits/me constantly reloading.

So I figure 10,000 is a big number. Let’s have a toapost! Thank you for coming to the site and I’m so glad you haven’t caught on that I really know nothing.

Btw, for those of you who read this blawg semi-regularly and want to be kept updated of new posts, try

Living the bohemian lifestyle

My current favorite CD is
Bela1

"Greatest Hits of the 20th Century" [warning: music starts playing when you click on that link] by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. I saw Bela Fleck (among others) live this weekend and I have to say, it was one of the most exhilerating live performances I’ve seen in a while. I’ve been listening to this CD non-stop for about 48 hours now and I’ve been a little disinclined to post, preferring to reminisce about the blazing sun, the water and live music.

I’ve snapped back to reality now, so I will post shortly. I just wanted to recommend this CD to anyone who likes this genre of music – or even those who don’t.

(somewhat) light blogging

I’m currently in the midst of a week with two hearings, so blogging will be light. Also with the upcoming weekend, I might not be posting as much as I’d like.

If I ever wanted things to be more interesting, however, I’d move to Coeur d’Alene in Idaho, where I could get married and yet go to jail or be able to tell commissioners to kiss my ass for not giving me enough of a raise (i’m kidding OCPD – i got the raise, the extra money is great, thanks! Love you guys!)
