Conviction: the movie
Someone turned me on to the trailer for this upcoming movie: Conviction. Based on the true life story of Betty Anne Waters‘ 17 year fight to exonerate her brother, the movie stars Hillary Swank as Waters and Minnie Driver as her best friend Abra Rice.
Abra, incidentally, is now a Connecticut public defender.

A friend invited me to see a pre-release screening of this wonderful film at the Lagoon Theater in Minneapolis on 9/20/2010. I don’t see a lot of movies, but I am so glad I saw this one. The true story is very touching showing the unconditional love and devotion of a sister to her brother who was falsely accused of murder. The cinematography was beautiful, and the acting superb. I don’t know how they could have found a better cast. The real Betty Anne Waters, who got her GED and then a law degree to free her brother, was in the theater to answer questions at the end of the showing. The director, Tony Goldwyn, was also there to answer questions and tell a bit about the making of the film. I don’t want to say too much about the story but I highly recommend it. Rated PG13.
