As somebody who is probably not unusually, this side of MADD nutcases, opposed to drunk driving, I think it would be a real, real good thing if there were some clear way that somebody who is in a car, by himself or herself, too drunk to drive, could have some recognized way of doing that without risking being arrested for DUI.

Otherwise, what we’re encouraging people in that situation to do is to drive drunk, and hope that they make it home without getting busted. “You shouldn’t have been drinking in the first place,” is not a terribly useful solution, any things considered.
