The world has not ended

Posted on October 11, 2008 by Gideon

Gay marriage is legal in CT and yet, for some unexplainable reason, the world has not ended. We’re still on terra firma, part of these contintental United States.

I’m flabbergasted. PS: Remember to vote “NO” to the Constitutional convention on Nov. 4th.

Assuming an intelligent eternal creator, opposed on philosophical grounds to gay marriage, it’s unreasonable to expect the end of the world the day after the court decision. Intelligent folks accomplish tasks with the least amount of effort and with a sense of proportion. It would therefore be unreasonable to off innocents like Antarctic penguins in response to 4 misguided justices.

So we should expect the end of Connecticut, not the entire world.

Secondly, an eternal being would not be in any particular hurry — what’s a millennium or two in the face of eternity? Probably the least effort means of Connecticut destruction would be a gentle nudge on a distant celestial object — perhaps from the Oort cloud. Using the overhyped Kohoutek as a benchmark, I’d say we should expect the end of Connecticut in 75,000 years or so. Make it 100,0000 years, just in case the object gets stuck in a TSA line or something.

So, contrary to Gideon’s glib comment about the lack of the end of the world (implying validation of the CT decision), I’ve got $20 that Connecticut is gone by the year 102008. Any takers?
