I'm not as think as you stoned I am

It's the economy, stupid

I have the solution for the country’s economic woes. Really. If the country’s politicians do what I say, there will be large revenues available to stabilize the markets and to inject back into the stream of commerce, thereby making everyone happier. Consumer spending will be up, housing markets will start to rebound and - most importantly - everyone will be relaxed!

Figured it out yet? Yep. Legalize marijuana (and throw in prostitution if you want). Estimates of the annual marijuana market range from $10 billion to $100 billion. Tax the import, export and sale of marijuana. Help the economy.

Duuuuuuude.

It’s got to be way more money than $100 billion - maybe a trillion? There are 3 million citizens in BC:

Until recently, I believed tales of drug busts and the legalization debate were news stories, and didn’t belong in a business magazine. Then a few experts attached numbers to the illegal business. Forestry added $10 billion to B.C.’s GDP in 2005, the construction industry another $7.9 billion and according to police sources, the marijuana trade claims third spot, boasting annual sales of $7.5 billion. Big business indeed.

Maybe enough to pay off Wall Street’s calamities?

While your post is humorous, cities and states, specifically California, have looked into practically dealing with issues such as legalizing marijuana and dealing with prostitution differently. It may not be popular in the bible belt, but it could increase tax revenue and keep jail populations down.
