This is an example of why a line taken out of context rarely reflects anything. Mike should have known better because he made a foolish assumption.

I heard the whole speech. Why do you think it’s being taken out of context or that she didn’t mean it the way he says she did? Certainly there’s nothing obvious preceding it or coming right after it.

It was a play on words, not an indication that she doesn’t understand that the words “great” referred to the magnitutde of depression rather than “happy”.
Mike’s attributed ignorance to her because of this, as in she doesn’t understand the English language. It was a silly attribution.
