I doubt you'll get much support from the public for your position. The comments I see almost without exception make it clear that about 98% (my estimate) of the public want to be told by the media who to blame and then want a conviction of that person by any means. Truth and justice, facts or fairness, all are tossed out with abandon. Of course "when they came for me" (Niemöller's words) they will howl with righteous indignation at the unfairness of it all and never see the irony.

Texas has not been immune to budget woes. Dallas County officials realized several months back that it was looking at a 34 million dollar shortfall and are looking to everything and everyone to blame but themselves. County commissioners fired chief public defender Brad Lollar the week before last and now the interim chief is slowing going about the process of firing assistant public defenders who are either perceived as not pulling their weight or have become unpopular with the interim chief and/or the county commissioners.

Further, the budget department has declared that attorneys in the misdemeanor and felony courts must increase the number of new cases they are assigned each month. Misdemeanor attorneys must take on 100 new cases while felony attorneys must take on 40.

Budget is also looking to cut out the appellate section (5 attorneys) as well as the APDs repesenting parents and children in child welfare cases (4 attorneys).
