How stupid are we?

Posted on May 28, 2008 by Gideon

I don’t know what’s worse: That people saw terrorist undertones in this picture or that Dunkin Donuts yanked it.

I know, we could all walk around wearing T-Shirts with the Crusaders Cross on them and pretend we didn’t know what it means.

Repeating comments from Malkin’s blog now? ;)

Yes, if it had been anything other than an e-mail to the blog (as in a blog post), I would’ve tried to brave the whole HREF thing. Now, I could’ve linked to the Malkin post, but that would likely have given you (or some of your readers) a heart attack. Didn’t want to risk that :)

In any case, the kaffiyeh is certainly more than just a nice scarf; it’s clearly a symbol for violent radical Islamism. Some people are just stupid, and aren’t aware of the symbolism, so they’re genuinely surprised when it’s pointed out. But other are quite aware….

I’d change “just stupid” above, to “just ignorant”

The issue of course is similar to those arising when twits wear their little Che Guevara t-shirts. Che Guevara stood for a lot of horrible horrible things. As does the keffiyeh. Willful blindness is what is stupid, not Dunkin Donuts’ decision.
