I’m totally with her on this one. The whole “can’t locate the United States on a map” issue is dumb, and the premise of the question is a damned lie. Everyone can locate the U.S. on a map: It’s the part labeled “United States.”

What some people can’t do is locate the United States on an unlabeled map. But how often does anybody ever have to do that outside of specialized disciplines?

Even then, with more and more maps presented electronically, if you want to know what everything is, just turn on the map’s political boundaries layer.

It probably never occurred to the young lady that the pollsters were using trick maps that were intentionally defective, so she assumed that if people can’t find stuff on maps, it must be because they don’t have maps.

I must admit, I’m a little cloudy about the second half of her answer…

Where did you get that in her response? How did you get anything from her response? You’re “with her” in what? I’m befuddled!

Anyway, according to the “poll”, only 1/5th of Americans can’t place the US on a map. Given the population of the country, however, it seems rather high. I’m sure there’s a miniscule percentage of the population that can’t place the country on a map.

Having seen this clip a few times now, I feel terribly guilty for having laughed the first few times, and have come to conclude that she is really Icelandic and a product of the Iceland educational system, which is clearly superior to our own.

Poor kid got so nervous she babbled. But she is cute as a button. Would you rather be able to answer the question and look like me or babble and look like her?

Scott, your hypothetical question posits a choice that is difficult to put in a realistic context. I’m not sure what you’re getting at. Let me put it this way: Given the choice of meeting you or her in person, I’d pick her. Hope that helps.

Mark, that’s exactly what I’m getting at. And personally, that’s the same choice I’d make.

Icelandic. Ouch.

She’s not that hot and if that’s how she always talks…well…

Nevertheless, blond and dumb > Scott
